ABRASIVE WHEELS TRAINING

Ideal for those who use all types of grinders and cut off saws

This course is for candidates who wish to learn the safe use of hand held grinders, bench mounted grinders and cut off saws. In addition to develop an understanding of the HSE approved code of practice for the safe use of abrasive wheels in accordance with HSG17.

 

The Course is intended for:

Operatives, Supervisors & Managers of Abrasive Wheels & Users that find it will impact on their duties & responsibilities.

Course Aims & Objectives:

To provide quality training in accordance with PUWER and HSG17 the approved code of practice for the safe use of abrasive wheels. 

 

Duration:

½ day:   For users of the cut off saw only
½ day:   Awareness training for non-users
Full day:  For users of all 3 types of abrasive wheels tools. (Hand held grinders, bench / pedestal mounted, cut off saw)

Attendees: Maximum of 6 People Per Course
Course Objectives & Content:

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for cutting or grinding machine
  • Select suitable type of machine relative to the work being undertaken
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up safety zone
  • Prepare the machine for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Environmental considerations
  • Storage and transport of abrasive wheel machine
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
