Plant Loader Securer Training

IDEAL FOR DRIVERS WHO ARE REQUIRED TO LOAD, SECURE, TRANSPORT & UNLOAD PLANT EQUIPMENT.

 Unsafe loads on vehicles injure more than 1200 people a year and cost UK businesses millions of pounds in damaged goods.

 

The Course is intended for:

Drivers who are required by law to demonstrate competency in the safe loading, securing & unloading of plant equipment onto all types of plant transporters.

Course Aims & Objectives:

By the end of this course, drivers will have the competency in the safe loading, securing & unloading of plant equipment onto all types of plant transporters. The course will incorporate best practice techniques when using both chains & ratchet straps.

 

Duration:

The novice plant loader and securer course is 2 days in duration and limited to 3 drivers attending. Drivers with sufficient plant loading and securing experience may be eligible to reduce the course duration to 1 day or even just the test. The maximum  number of assessments / tests per day is 6 tests.

Attendees: 3 for novice training or 6 depending on sufficient prior experience
Course Objectives & Content:

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operative in the industry
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used and relevant legislation
  • Be able to identify different types of transport, explain their purpose, the major components, basic construction, controls and terminology
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the loading / unloading area
  • Ensure that the transporter is correctly configured in readiness for loading and unloading
  • Explain hazards that may exist in the work area and how to avoid them, e.g. underground services, overhead power lines etc
  • Agree a method of communication and use it
  • Load or direct items of plant onto and off transporting vehicle
  • Arrange and secure items of plant on transport vehicle ready for transport on the public highway
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
